Fern Faulkner, 18, driver, died attempting to save Harry G. Larson, 18, student, from drowning, Lake Stevens, Washington, January 1, 1919. While skating on Stichs Lake, Larson broke through the ice. Faulkner, who was nearby, skated to the shore, got a rope, and returned to a point 50 feet from Larson. He tied one of his skates to the rope, and as he was about to throw the skate to Larson, he fell and broke through the ice. He disappeared under the ice and was drowned.
