Florence Warner, 48, assistant radio director, saved William E. Kreidler, 31, industrial equipment distributor, from drowning, Islamorada, Florida, April 23, 1950. When the cabin cruiser in which KreidIer was riding in Hawk Channel of the Straits of Florida pitched in turbulent water on a reef, he fell overboard into water 15 feet deep. Mrs. Warner dived from the stern of the cruiser and swam through breakers five and a half feet high 60 feet to Kreidler. Placing his hand on her shoulder-strap and telling him to hold to it and not struggle, she quickly removed her shoes and stockings and then swam and towed Kreidler toward the boat, which by then was 300 feet from them. After the boat was turned, it approached within 20 feet of them. Mrs. Warner, who had been in the water three to five minutes and had towed Kreidler 70 feet, swam 10 feet to two life preservers that were thrown toward her. Giving one to Kreidler, she put her arm through the straps of the other and towed Kreidler five feet to the boat. Kreidler was pulled aboard, Mrs. Warner aiding by pushing from below. Mrs. Warner was submerged, rose 10 feet astern, returned to the boat, and was pulled aboard. She was tired but recovered. 41989-3710
