Francis E. Park, 42, physician and surgeon, saved Michael O’Loughlin, 68, laborer, from suffocation, Stoneham, Massachusetts, October 11, 1909. (See case of MICHAEL O’LOUGHLIN.) Park reached the manhole as a laborer was being drawn to the surface. Realizing that something should be done quickly for O’Loughlin, who was overcome while attempting to save the laborer, Park descended and fastened a chain around O’Loughlin, who was then drawn to the surface. Park, although dizzy from having breathed the gas, was able to climb out of the manhole. 6315-676
