Frank B. Weik, 21, school teacher, saved Charles I. Fisher, 40, clergyman; Olive M. McCalley, 14, and Cora B. Butterfield, 17, from burning, Walker, Iowa, November 1, 1908. When a gasoline tank exploded in the vestibule of a small church, the building took fire and Fisher’s clothing was spattered with gasoline and ignited. He ran to the front of the auditorium, where Weik and the two girls were. Weik extinguished the flames on Fisher by smothering them with his coat and a cotton curtain and by tearing off parts of his burning clothing. He then broke a window-escape through the door, being cut off by flames-, and Fisher climbed out. The girls, panic stricken, had failed in an attempt to open a window at the opposite side of the room, and, going to them, Weik broke the window, through which they and he escaped. Weik sustained slight burns of his right hand, face, and ears. All the others sustained burns. 3338-325
