Frank Getz, 29, chemical tester, saved Obediah Abraham, 26, steamfitter, from suffocation, Utica, New York, May 8, 1931. Getz, who was winded from running, felt sure that Abraham had been overcome by some kind of gas. He put on a respirator that he knew was for use in dust rather than in gas, and a rope was tied around him. He descended the ladder, and as he began to tie a rope around Abraham, he felt he was being affected. He hastily finished tying the rope. He became unconscious and was pulled out on the rope. Abraham was then pulled out, and both were revived. Getz suffered from gas poisoning and was disabled five days. (See case of IRVING A MERRILL.)
