Frank Grabinski, 15, oiler, died attempting to save Frank Filipiak, 8, from drowning, Nanticoke, Pennsylvania, August 1, 1917. Filipiak became distressed about 10 feet from the bank of the Susquehanna River, where the water was about five feet deep. Grabinski, a very poor swimmer, waded toward Filipiak, who was drifting away from the bank, but got into deep water before he could reach him. Filipiak sank and was drowned. Grabinski was carried 25 feet by the current, threshing to keep afloat, but he then sank and was drowned. 18533-1359
