Frank L. Van Tilbury, 59, station agent, died attempting to save John A. Snider, 75, retired, from being killed by a train, Coesse, Indiana, March 6, 1923. Snider, who was not very active, started over a railroad crossing as a train was approaching. Van Tilbury, who was running over the crossing in the same direction as Snider, passed Snider as the latter stepped onto the track on which the train was running, but when Van Tilbury was on the track about three feet from Snider, and the train, running at a speed of about 8 m.p.h., was about 16 feet from them, Van Tilbury turned, took a step toward Snider, and grasped him by the arm. Snider continued a step or two, and as Van Tilbury, still holding to him, was about to step off the track, both were struck by the locomotive and were killed. 23208-1858
