Frank P. Mullaly, 28, rigger, assisted in an attempt to save Ira D. Shearer, 41, rigger, from suffocation, McKeesport, Pennsylvania, October 15, 1917. (See case of GEORGE VUKNIC.) Mullaly was the workman who followed Vuknic into the flue. He passed Vuknic and told him to raise Shearer so he could tie a rope around Shearer. When Vuknic was overcome, Mullaly grasped him to help him to his feet, but Mullaly then felt the effect of the gas. He dropped Vuknic, returned to a point under the manhole, and was drawn out of the flue by men above, having been in the flue from one to two minutes. He was not seriously affected. 18570-1361
