Frank Pugliese died attempting to save Douglas P. and W. Archibald R. Bryant from being killed by a train, Schenectady, New York, June 12, 1918. Douglas, 5, stumbled and fell on a track on which a freight train 200 feet away was approaching at a speed of about 38 m.p.h. Archibald, 9, who was following Douglas, gave him aid, and they got off the track ahead of the train, Archibald dropping to his hands and knees. Pugliese, 39, crossing flagman, had run toward them from a point nearby, and passing under a lowered crossing gate 12 feet from the boys, he was struck by the train and killed. Archibald attempted to rise to his feet, but an iron step of a car struck his head, and he was killed. 18956-1460
