Frank S. Root, 17, teamster, saved Frank J. Moske, 46, farmer, from suffocation, Junction City, Kansas, August 18, 1914. Moske was overcome about 10 minutes after entering a 30-foot well to clean it. Frank and another man were the only other persons present. Knowing that gas had caused the accident, Frank descended and tied a rope to Moske. The man at the top pulled, and Frank lifted as he climbed to the top of a 16-foot ladder in the well. From this point it was necessary for Frank to climb out by a rope, and although he was affected by the gas, he accomplished the ascent with an effort and helped to draw Moske out. Moske was revived. Frank suffered only from headache. 14220-1232
