Fred A. Riddle, 33, plant policeman, saved Helen V. Leitner, 4, from being killed by a train, Groveton, Pennsylvania, August 13, 1943. Helen ran on a crossing onto a track on which a passenger-train was approaching at a speed of 65 m.p.h. Riddle ran 30 feet, crossed one rail, and picked up Helen as he continued to run across the track. He reached a point three feet from the rail when the front of the locomotive passed them at unreduced speed. Neither Riddle nor Helen was injured. 39952-3354
