Fred J. Prann, 64, merchant, died attempting to save Kirsten West, 78, from burning, Cresco, Iowa, January 7, 1930. Mrs. West was in an apartment on the second floor of a brick building. Fire ignited gasoline in a garage under the apartment in which Mrs. West and Prann lived, and the entire floor was soon in flames. Flames and smoke rolled upward at the sides of the building. Prann’s attention was called to the fire by hearing his wife’s cry to save her mother. He ran from his store on the opposite side of the street toward a door leading to a stairway at one side of the building which led to the second floor. He was last seen about 50 feet from the door. Two hours later two bodies were found within 10 feet of each other in the ruins of the building near the stairway, and they were identified as those of Prann and Mrs. West.
