Fred N. Crafts, 36, chauffeur, saved Kate B. Edmands, 64, from being run over by a train, Hamilton, Massachusetts, August 14, 1911. Being confused by cries of warning, Mrs. Edmands, who was slow in her movements, started to cross a track on which a passenger train was approaching at a speed of 45 m.p.h. Crafts, who was nearer the train and on the side of the track to which the woman was going, ran toward her and reached her just as she was about to step over the rail, off the track. The train was then within 65 feet of them. Crafts grabbed Mrs. Edmands around her body with one arm and grabbed one of her arms with his other hand, then he exerted all his strength and thrust her off and away from the track. The passing locomotive struck one of her arms, dislocating her elbow and breaking a bone, and also bruised her hip. The train did not stop. 7221-1007
