Frederick Hiser, 16, farmhand, attempted to save Olive Hiser, 54, from burning, Hessel, Michigan, December 14, 1906. Frederick was asleep on the first floor of his home and was awakened by an alarm of fire. He ascended to the second floor and dragged his aunt from her bed and to the stairs. She struggled with him because of fright, but he continued to drag her down the stairway, which was all in flames. The clothing of both took fire, resulting in fatal burns to his aunt and serious injury to the rescuer. 1539-210
