Frederick W. Ronback saved an unidentified man from drowning, Oakbeach, New York, July 4, 1919. While wading in the Atlantic Ocean, the man, who was much heavier than Ronback, got into deep water. He threshed and drifted in a strong current. Ronback, 34, store department manager, who was dressed and not in good physical condition, waded 15 feet from shore and swam 10 feet to the man. He seized the man’s shoulder, and keeping him at arm’s length behind him, Ronback swam and was carried by the current 25 feet to wadable water. He then fell prostrate and crawled, dragging the man, who was dazed, toward shore. Another man waded out a short distance and assisted both to shore. 20200-1709
