Frederick W. Sies, 21, locomotive fireman, saved James M. Hayek, 2, from being run over by a train, Dixon, Iowa, November 4, 1909. While his train was running 35 m.p.h., Sies’s attention was called to the child on the track, by the applying of the emergency brakes. Quickly making his way to the pilot, he braced himself on it and snatched the child from the track. 4477-346
