Frederick W. Weiher, 44, driver, saved Zachariah T. Dimpsey, 63, from suffocation, Wall, Pennsylvania, February 11, 1909. Dimpsey was struck by a flying rock from a blast at the bottom of a 25-foot well, and he fell into the well, unconscious. After another man had been lowered 10 feet on a rope and had requested to be hoisted on account of the dense smoke, Weiher volunteered to go down and was lowered. He fastened the rope to Dimpsey, who was drawn up. Then Weiher was hoisted. Dimpsey died from injuries a few hours later. 3452-256
