G. Frank Caler, 39, machinist, saved Caroline Bell, 75, from burning, Transfer, Pennsylvania, July 20, 1911. Caler climbed through a window and, seeking Miss Bell, twice felt his way around her bedroom, which was filled with dense smoke and into which flames were bursting overhead. Not finding her, he groped to the window and was pulled out. Despite entreaties of his wife and children, he entered another room, also filled with smoke, in which he found Miss Bell, unconscious. Although he was becoming weak, he managed to drag her to the window, where other men took her and carried her from the building. Caler was dazed. Miss Bell was revived. 7070-606
