Gamble Rogers died after attempting to help save Raymond J. Tracey from drowning, Flagler Beach, Florida, October 10, 1991. Tracey, 48, was swimming in the Atlantic Ocean when he was pulled out from shore by a strong current. Camping nearby, Rogers, 54, entertainer, was alerted. He entered the water with an inflated air mattress and, joined by another man, maneuvered through the rough water toward Tracey. After Tracey was swamped by a wave and carried farther away, Rogers, tiring, and the other man attempted to return to shore. Fighting the current en route, they too were swamped by a wave and were separated from the mattress. Rogers submerged. The other man reached shore, but Tracey and Rogers drowned.
