Garry James Wishart helped to save Lana J. and Shannon L. Aspeleiter from drowning, Pincher Creek, Alberta, May 20, 1973. Lana, 2, and Shannon, 7, were in an automobile when it entered Beauvais Lake and began submerging as it drifted away from shore. Wishart, 24, power company lineman, entered the cold water and swam to the vehicle, which submerged completely about 80 feet from shore in water approximately eight feet deep. Wishart dived, entered the automobile, and removed Lana. He handed her to a Canadian Armed Forces corporal who also had swum to the area and dived alongside the automobile. All reached the surface as a boat arrived. Wishart then removed Shannon from the submerged vehicle. The corporal took her to the surface as Wishart followed. With Lana and Shannon in the boat, Wishart and the corporal held to it as it returned to shore. 53776-6132
