George C. Hudgins, 62, retired, rescued Jesse D. Lovejoy, 26, filling station attendant, from electric shock, Beltsville, Maryland, November 13, 1945. At night Lovejoy got in contact with several wires that had fallen onto wet ground and fell prone on the edge of a paved roadway. Removing his rubberized coat, Hudgins walked to Lovejoy and with a sleeve of his coat struck a wire and knocked it clear of Lovejoy. Then wrapping the sleeve around Lovejoy’s arm, he pulled him free of other wires in which Lovejoy’s feet were entangled. Lovejoy was severely burned and died from shock shortly afterward. 40667-3479
