George Edward Peters, 54, painting superintendent, attempted to save John E. McFerin, 38, foreman painter, from electric shock, Groveport, Ohio, March 11, 1918. McFerin’s foot came in contact with a circuit carrying a current of 13,200 volts, at the top of a bus structure in a power plant. He stood rigid, with a blue flame extending from his foot to his knee. Peters was on the bus structure, walked two steps, and took hold of him to push him free, but Peters was immediately shocked, his clothing took fire, and he fell 10 feet to the floor. McFerin was fatally injured. Peters was seriously burned, his right leg was fractured, and his left ankle was dislocated. 18778-1568
