George F. Roth, 20, clerk, saved Royal J. Clark, 6, from drowning, Cincinnati, Ohio, June 29, 1913. Royal fell from a steamboat in the middle of the Ohio River, and Roth dropped from the other side of the boat and swam back to him. He found Royal under water and brought him to the surface, but Royal grasped Roth around the neck with both arms. A launch started from the bank as Roth reached Royal, but Roth had sunk from exhaustion twice and was under water when the launch reached him. He and Royal were drawn aboard and taken to the steamboat, which had stopped 400 feet upstream. Roth lost consciousness as he was drawn into the launch, but he recovered. 11222-1323
