George Lyle Tribby died attempting to save Mary A. Royal from drowning, Fairport Harbor, Ohio, September 18, 1927. While attempting to swim to her sister, who had lost her footing in Lake Erie close to a breakwater, Miss Royal, 23, was caught in a strong current 265 feet from shore and carried farther out. There were waves three feet high striking hard against the breakwater. Tribby, 32, accountant, went out on the breakwater to a point opposite Miss Royal, removed part of his clothing, and entered the water in an attempt to reach her. He got into distress, and both he and Miss Royal disappeared and were drowned. 27660-2222
