George M. Stacy, Jr., 21, student, saved Daniel J. Duggan, 26, fish dealer, from drowning, Hampton Beach, New Hampshire, August 8, 1926. While Duggan was bathing in the Atlantic Ocean, he was struck by a breaker and was carried by an undertow to a point 200 feet from shore. Stacy swam to Duggan, who was struggling wildly in breakers five to eight feet high. After considerable difficulty, he got hold of Duggan and then swam with great effort against the strong undertow and through rough water for 100 feet toward shore. He had swallowed much water and was so near a state of exhaustion that he thought he would have to leave Duggan, but he struggled farther to wadable water with him. Others then took Duggan to shore. Duggan was unconscious but was revived. Stacy was helped to shore by another man. 26735-2312
