George S. Mason, 26, enameller, saved Charles J. Sheckler, 12, from drowning, Toledo, Ohio, December 23, 1906. While going to the assistance of Charles, who had broken through the ice on the Maumee River, Mason also broke through, but he proceeded by swimming and breaking the ice with his fists. Getting the boy on his back, Mason swam back with him 100 feet to shore.
