George W. Allred, 16, laborer, died attempting to save Albert D. Young, 17, laborer, from drowning, Glenobey, Tennessee, July 11, 1915. A young man took Albert on his back and attempted to swim across the East Fork of the Obey River with him. When they were eight feet from the bank and in water eight feet deep, Albert grasped his companion about the neck tightly with both hands, and they became distressed. George swam about 50 feet to them and grasped Albert’s arm. Albert then released his hold on his companion and grasped George around the neck or upper part of his body with both hands, and they sank. They bobbed up and down two or three times and then sank and were drowned. Albert’s companion swam to wadable water. 17999-1475
