George W. Weidinger, 31, foreman welder, died saving one or more of about 21 men from an explosion, Buffalo, New York, April 30, 1917. One of a number of workmen in a building was handling a tank charged with acetylene gas. The tank began getting hot, and the man in charge of the workman told him to take the tank from the building, but the workman walked away from it. Weidinger hurried to it and dragged it through a door 12 feet away. Two feet outside the door the tank exploded, hurling Weidinger 35 feet. He was killed, and several men in the building were knocked down by the concussion. 17944-1368
