Gerald Kazuo Yanaba died attempting to save Tina S. Jung from drowning, Bodega Bay, California, November 22, 1986. Miss Jung, 28, was fishing from a Pacific Ocean beach with a friend, Yanaba, 34, budget administrator. When a wave carried Miss Jung’s fishing pole into the water, she attempted to retrieve it but was carried into the ocean by another wave. Miss Jung called for help. Yanaba waded into the ocean and swam to Miss Jung, but they were shortly separated. Rescue personnel pulled Miss Jung, who was unconscious, from the ocean, but she could not be revived. Yanaba could not be located and was presumed to have drowned also.
