Gertrude Bush attempted to save Isabel P. Noda from drowning, Key West, Florida, November 19, 1915. Isabel, 16, while wading in the Gulf of Mexico, got into deep water 200 feet from shore. Gertrude, 16, housekeeper, swam eight feet to Isabel and grasped her, and in the struggle that ensued, both went under the surface several times. Gertrude finally escaped from Isabel, swam 40 feet to wadable water, called for assistance, and then swam back to her. They grasped each other and struggled, and Isabel took Gertrude to the bottom and held her there. They were rescued by a man, who waded to them. Isabel lost consciousness but was revived. Gertrude swallowed much water and was exhausted but recovered. 15819-1422
