Giuseppe Tordio died attempting to save Albert Arrigo from drowning, Chicago, Illinois, April 29, 1915. Albert, 8, fell into the North Branch of the Chicago River and struggled in water 10 feet deep at a point eight feet from the docks lining the bank. Tordio, 20, peddler, dived to the rescue and swam two or three strokes to Albert. Albert grasped Tordio around the neck and pulled him beneath the surface. They came up and went down twice more, and then Tordio came up alone. He seemed to be too weak to help himself, and he sank again and was drowned. Albert was drowned. 14759-1128
