Gleelan Jay Pitcher, 17, schoolboy, saved Carl R. Erickson, 20, student, from drowning, Nevada, Iowa, May 11, 1929. Erickson fell from a diving board into a reservoir and threshed in water 12 feet deep. Gleelan, who was much lighter than Erickson and was almost fully clothed, swam 30 feet from the bank to Erickson. Erickson grabbed him, and a struggle ensued, in which both went under the surface once or twice. Erickson finally stopped struggling, and Gleelan, who was fatigued, swam with him with great difficulty toward the bank. A youth on the diving board extended his hand, and Gleelan was given a pull to the bank. He and Erickson were dazed.
