Glenn E. Miller, 11, schoolboy, saved Earl F. Parker, 9, from drowning, Balmat, New York, July 7, 1954. While swimming in Sylvia Lake, Earl was submerged briefly in deep water 30 feet from a diving float anchored 110 feet from the bank. He rose floundering and screamed for help. Glenn immediately dived from the float and swam to Earl. As Glenn started to take hold of Earl, the latter seized Glenn around the neck with both arms and wrapped his legs around him. Twice they sank beneath the surface. Calming Earl, Glenn persuaded him to release his holds. He towed Earl to the float and aided him from the water. A man who arrived soon afterward in a rowboat took the boys to the bank. 43271-3978
