Gloria Rodriguez, 12, schoolgirl, died saving Julita Sanchez, 12, from being struck by an automobile, Los Angeles, California, April 11, 1966. Julita, Gloria, and an older girl were standing on the sidewalk at a street crossing when a sedan struck the rear of a station wagon, causing the latter to veer toward them. Shouting to Julita to run, Gloria stepped fully into the path of the oncoming automobile and pushed her forcibly. The station wagon moved onto the sidewalk and struck Gloria on the back while she was pushing Julita ahead of her. Gloria was thrown three feet into the air and then pushed ahead of the automobile, which grazed the legs of Julita and the older girl as they were running away. Still pushing Gloria ahead of it, the automobile struck two other girls, knocking them down. Gloria also fell to the sidewalk and the station wagon ran over her. Julita and the older girl sustained only minor injuries, and the other two girls recovered after hospitalization, but Gloria suffered fatal injuries.
