Graciano S. Salinas attempted to save Julia Ramos de Barrera from drowning, Eagle Pass, Texas, September 12, 1925. Mrs. Ramos de Barrera, 40, fell from a bridge into water 10 feet deep in the Rio Grande River. Graciano, 14, laborer, who was much lighter than the woman, waded from the bank and swam 350 feet to her. She grasped him with both arms, and he could not break away. He then went under the surface purposely, and she released her hold. They rose, and Graciano then took hold of her arm and swam aided by the current about 1,100 feet to shallow water. Mrs. Ramos de Barrera was then unconscious and did not revive. Salinas was greatly fatigued. 25622-2178
