Grant P. Clemens helped to save LeRoy Farrar from burning Saticoy, California, December 9, 1987. Farrar, 59, was trapped in his car after a highway accident in which flames broke out and virtually surrounded the car. Clemens, 32, state traffic officer, used a fire extinguisher to approach the car, then, using his baton, broke a side window. With another man who had approached, Clemens pulled Farrar out of the car through the window. He and the other man then helped Farrar away from the car, just before it was engulfed by flames. Farrar required hospital treatment for smoke inhalation and other injuries. Clemens was treated at the hospital for first- and second-degree burns to his face and neck, and he recovered.
