Gregory J. Soukoreff saved Harry and Becky Ng and rescued Vincent Ng from burning, Richmond, British Columbia, June 21, 1981. Ng, 37, and his wife were unconscious in their car, the rear of which was aflame following a highway accident. Soukoreff, 19, vocational school student, pulled Ng through the driver’s window, then, despite flames entering the rear of the car, climbed into the back-seat area and pushed the Ng’s son, Vincent, out the passenger window. Soukoreff then lifted Mrs. Ng, who lay on the floor, and passed her through the driver’s window. After climbing out of the car, Soukoreff saw that Vincent had caught fire. As Soukoreff ran to him, the entire car burst into flame, engulfing Vincent. Soukoreff pulled Vincent away and rolled him on the ground to extinguish the flames. Ng and his wife recovered from their injuries, but Vincent died three weeks later of severe burns. Soukoreff was treated for third-degree burns to his hands; he recovered
