Guy F. Empey saved Cornelia E. Denne from drowning, Merrill, Wisconsin, November 29, 1906. Guy, 15, schoolboy, heavily clothed, skated to Cornelia, 11, who had broken through the ice on the Wisconsin River 40 feet from the bank where the water was 10 feet deep. He broke into the same hole while attempting to pull the girl out. He grabbed her and she caught him about the neck, but Guy struck her and she released him, going under the edge of the ice. Breaking the ice, he grasped her and supported her until boys shoved a small sled to him and pulled both out. 3274-433
