H. Alden Lauer, 15, schoolboy, died attempting to save William J. E. Frazee, 14, schoolboy, from drowning, Kansas City, Missouri, May 15, 1915. William and Alden and two other boys sat on a heavy log and paddled it 50 feet from the bank of Lake of the Woods. William, who could not swim, fell from the log and struggled helplessly in the water, which was 10 feet deep and very cold. Calling that he was coming, Alden, who was at the other end and was fully dressed, walked along the log, jumped into the water, and swam about 12 feet to William. Just after he reached him, both boys sank and were drowned. 14817-1174
