H. Edgar Doverspike, 39, clergyman, died attempting to save Stephen G. Huggins, 10, from drowning, Albany, Illinois, May 6, 1946. Stephen slipped on a concrete apron that sloped up from a drainage sluice, fell into the water, rose in water eight feet deep, and drifted from the apron in a current of one m.p.h. Fully clothed, Doverspike dived and swam to Stephen, who was then 10 feet from the water line. Putting his arm around Stephen, Doverspike stroked with his other arm; and Stephen put his arms around his neck. They were briefly submerged, drifted 10 feet, with Doverspike stroking feebly, and sank. Both were drowned. 40839-3483
