H. Seymore Fraley died attempting to save Paul A. Morrison from drowning, Allentown, Ohio, March 17, 1935. While Paul, 14, and another youth were paddling a rowboat on Pine Creek in a current of 5 m.p.h., the boat sank to the gunwale in water 10 feet deep at a point 25 feet from the bank. They jumped into the water, and the other youth swam to the bank with great effort. Paul threshed, swam in small circles, and was momentarily submerged several times. Fully clothed, Seymore, 15, schoolboy, dived from the bank and swam to Paul, who was submerged as Seymore reached him. Dipping under the surface, Seymore took hold of Paul’s neck with his left arm and swam to the surface. Whether Paul had hold of Seymore could not be established, but Seymore towed Paul toward the bank, both being briefly submerged several times. After towing Paul 10 feet, both boys sank and were drowned.
