Hale D. Adams, 22, student, rescued Charles F. Marsh, 46, teamster, from a runaway, Galesburg, Illinois, December 12, 1916. A heavy team that Marsh was driving ran away, and Marsh was thrown onto the tongue of the wagon. Adams ran onto the street and grabbed a rein near the bit. He was thrown against a front leg of one of the horses, and his feet were dragged over the paving, but he kept from falling by holding to the rein with both hands. The horses were headed for a pole at the curb, but Adams managed to change their course sufficiently to avoid being caught between the horses and the pole, and be brought the team to a stop 85 feet from where he had reached it. He was a little bruised. Marsh was severely bruised. 17519-1310
