Harold L. Richard, 15, student, died attempting to save Russell E. Evans, 15, student, from drowning, Chillicothe, Ohio, May 30, 1922. Russell fell from a dam into Paint Creek, where the water was 10 feet deep. He drifted in the current, threshing and bobbing up and down about 40 feet from the bank. Harold, who was a poor swimmer, waded about 40 feet to deep water and then paddled 15 feet toward Russell. He then became exhausted and was carried along by the current. He threshed and got within five or 10 feet of Russell but failed to reach him and drifted into swiftly moving riffles and was drowned. Russell also was drowned. 22506-1831
