Harold W. Snow attempted to save Mollie Meredith from being killed by a train, Jackson, Mississippi, April 26, 1912. Mrs. Meredith, 73, unaware of her danger, walked onto a track on which a passenger train was approaching at a speed of 6 m.p.h. When the locomotive was 20 feet from her, Snow, 28, private secretary, sprang after her from a point 10 feet away. He reached her midway between the rails and was about to remove her from the track, but at that moment both were struck. Mrs. Meredith received injuries that caused her death eight months later. Snow was thrown 15 feet and fell beside the track with one leg over the rail. He was dragged 60 feet by the locomotive before it stopped. He sustained injuries that necessitated amputation of his leg below the knee and that disabled him 96 days. 8440-1143
