Harry C. Rogers attempted to rescue Katherine A. Goette from a runaway, Berea, Ohio, May 25, 1920. Katherine, 7, was in a two-wheeled cart to which a race horse was hitched when the horse started to run away. Rogers, 32, veterinarian, ran to the middle of the road and attempted to grasp one of the reins, but he slipped and fell at the side of the horse. He got to his hands and knees, but the wheel of the cart struck him and passed over him. Katherine was thrown out of the cart and was only slightly injured. Rogers suffered from bruises which resulted in a permanent lameness. 21183-1779
