Harry D. Thompson, 43, master mechanic, attempted to save William B. Jones, 30, foreman, from suffocation, Youngstown, Ohio, April 29, 1909. Thompson, with a rope about his waist, descended a ladder to the bottom of a gasometer pit, which was 10 feet deep and filled with carbon monoxide gas. He attempted to fasten a rope to Jones, but he was overcome. He was drawn up and revived.
