Harry E. Brader, 36, musician, saved J. Almond Eddy, 21, musician, from drowning, Laketon, Pennsylvania, August 22, 1917. Eddy was seized with a sudden heart attack while swimming in Harvey Lake 200 feet from shore, where the water was 35 feet deep. He sank six feet under the surface and was semiconscious. Brader swam 50 feet, dived, and grasped him, but Eddy got a tight clutch on Brader’s arm. Brader after a struggle freed himself and, grasping Eddy’s hair, rose to the surface. Eddy was then unconscious, and his weight caused Brader to go under the surface momentarily. Brader, who was in a weakened condition, called for help and attempted to swim to shore with Eddy, but he made no appreciable progress. He went under the surface several times. Two men rowed from shore in a boat, and when they arrived, Brader was exhausted and was just beginning to lose consciousness when he and Eddy were taken into the boat. Both were revived. 19086-1633
