Harry F. Cameron, 39, brakeman, saved Doris A. Wanamaker, 7, from being killed by a train, Helena, Montana, November 17, 1924. Doris started to cross a track just ahead of a train which was approaching at a speed of about 4 m.p.h. She stumbled and fell face downward on the track when the locomotive was eight feet distant. Cameron, who was standing on a step on the pilot of the locomotive, sprang forward, running about two steps between the rails to Doris. He stooped, took hold of her, and was attempting to drag her from the track when the locomotive bumped him. He fell just clear of the track, still holding Doris. He was not injured. One of Doris’s legs was run over by the locomotive and had to be amputated. 24873-2060
