Harvey E. Wells, 24, express company yard foreman, saved James Coleman, 50, laborer, from being killed by a train, Detroit, Michigan, July 3, 1917. Coleman stood on a platform loading a truck and was in the path of a train running at a speed of about 8 m.p.h. Wells ran to Coleman and pushed him around the end of the truck clear of the train, but Wells was struck by the locomotive and knocked about 19 feet. He fell with both feet under the train, and they were severed. He also suffered a severe injury to his head, being totally disabled 5.5 months. 20237-1837
