Haskell U. Trittipo, 28, baker, attempted to save Walter C. Lang, 40, tailor, from burning, Wolcottville, Indiana, February 1, 1921. Lang was burned in an explosion of gasoline that occurred in his shop, and he lay helpless and semiconscious about 21 feet from the door. The shop took fire and soon filled with dense smoke. Hearing Lang groan, Trittipo entered but was driven back by smoke after going six feet. Then he crawled on his hands and knees to Lang, going under an intervening table to reach him. Grasping Lang’s legs, Trittipo pulled him under the table and to within five feet of the door, and another man then reached in and helped pull Lang out. Lang died of his burns three days later. Trittipo was not injured. 21150-1903
